A closed suction catheter, also known as an in-line suction catheter, is a medical device used to remove respiratory secretions and maintain a clear airway in mechanically ventilated patients. It is commonly utilized in intensive care units (ICUs), operating rooms, and other critical care settings.

Unlike a traditional suction catheter, a closed suction catheter is designed to remain in-line with the patient’s ventilator circuit without the need for disconnection.
