A Guedel airway, also known as an oropharyngeal airway, is a medical device used to maintain a patent airway in unconscious or sedated patients. It is commonly used in emergency medicine, anesthesia, and critical care settings.

The Guedel airway is a curved, hollow tube made of rigid or semi-rigid material, such as plastic or rubber. It is inserted into the patient’s mouth and positioned in the oropharynx, helping to prevent the tongue from obstructing the airway and allowing for the passage of air. The airway has a flange at one end to prevent complete insertion into the mouth.
