PLAIN CATGUT SUTURE

Plain catgut suture is a type of absorbable surgical suture made from the submucosal layer of the small intestine of sheep or other animals. Like chromic catgut, the term “catgut” is somewhat misleading, as it does not come from the intestines of cats but rather refers to any cord or string-like material. Unlike chromic catgut, plain catgut is not treated with chromic salts, which means it has a shorter absorption time.

Absorbable Nature: Plain catgut suture is absorbable, meaning it is gradually broken down and absorbed by the body over time. The natural enzymatic processes in the body break down the suture material.
